Our Snapshot

Globe-Miami is the heart of the Cobre (Spanish for Copper) Valley, located at the base of the foothills of the Pinal Mountains- approximately 3,500 feet in elevation.  It is located 87 miles east of Phoenix and 106 miles north of Tucson.  The region maintains cooler temperatures and more precipitation than its metropolitan neighbors. It also maintains warmer winter temperatures than its rural mountain neighbors. The two cities are located along four major highways and a railway which has made it a gateway for travelers going from Arizona’s major metropolitan areas to the White Mountains, Roosevelt Lake and the San Carlos Apache Reservation. In spite of the busy traveling through the community, it continues to maintain its identity as a small town with great landscapes, friendly neighborhoods and a rich history.

Activities and Arts in Globe-Miami

Globe-Miami’s history of mining and ranching have ingrained in its residents a remarkable ethic of working hard and playing hard. Outdoor recreational opportunities are abundant in the area. Lake Roosevelt offers year round fishing, and an extended warm water boating and skiing season. The mountains, hills and canyons in the surrounding area offer an abundance of wildlife, hunting, hiking, off-road ATV trails and camping.

The Cobre Valley Center for the Arts is located in the landmark former Gila County Courthouse of 1906, at the heart of Globe’s historic downtown district. Since 1984, this non-profit entity has been steadily restoring and rejuvenating this architectural treasure, while presenting regional artists on the main gallery floor, community theater in the historic courtroom, and dance and music academies. The Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum in Miami is a historical gem that reflects the cultural diversity of the region along with the history of mining in the region.
